CVC

In 1998, the central venous catheter (CVC) developed and produced by SCW Medicath Ltd. was successfully listed by National Medical Products Administration, China (NMPA) and used by major hospitals. SCW Medicath Ltd. is one of the first manufacturers to obtain product registration certificate in China. After more than 20 years of research and development and continuous improvement, the central venous catheter produced by SCW Medicath Ltd. has a considerable market in China, and the products are also exported to foreign countries. The tube body includes the image display under X-ray of the tube body, the surface treatment, the design and configuration of the tip and guide wire are all specially designed which can meet different needs of clinical needs. There are catheters of various lengths or specifications with single cavity, double cavity, three cavity and four cavity for clinical selection.

Functions of central venous catheter

In general, the role of central venous catheter can be summarized into two aspects:

1. As a venous pressure measuring device: it is used in conjunction with the blood pressure sensor to measure the central venous pressure. See the figure below:

CVC

Central venous pressure is the pressure at the place where the superior and inferior vena cava enter the right atrium. It is measured through the superior and inferior vena cava or the built-in tube in the right atrium. It reflects the right atrial pressure and is one of the main indicators of hemodynamics in clinical observation. It is affected by three factors: cardiac function, circulating blood volume and vascular tension. Central venous pressure can be used as an index of liquid infusion speed and liquid infusion volume in clinic. It needs to be used in combination with blood pressure sensor. The latter is also the characteristic product of SCW Medicath Ltd., which will be introduced separately.

2. As a pathway of infusion for liquids, nutrients, medication et al. provides convenience for various clinical applications:

  • for drugs with irritant peripheral veins (small veins), they should be injected from the central venous catheter instead. For example: Amiodarone, etc.
  • chemotherapeutic solution to prevent tumor extravasation.
  • establish a good infusion channel for patients with repeated infusions to avoid the pain of repeated puncture.
  • establish infusion channels for severe patients.
  • tubes for hemodialysis, such as plasma exchange or kidney washing.
  • long term parenteral nutrition, long-term antibiotic injection and long-term analgesic injection.
  • take blood samples.

Use time of CVC

SCW Medicath Ltd. Produced CVC is for one-time use, and the longest retention time within the body for a single use shall not exceed 30 days. For long-term use, Peripheral central venous catheter (PICC, up to 1 year) and fully implantable intravenous infusion device (port, can be used for many years) can be considered.
